With sunshine year-round, a laid-back atmosphere and a long beach with great waves and turquoise waters make Tamarindo a popular destination for surfers and eco-adventures. Located on the Pacific coast, Tamarindo is one of the most developed beach towns of the vibrant Nicoya peninsula of Costa Rica.
Tamarindo is in the region of Nicoya with paved roads and tourist facilities. It’s known for beaches that have good surf, including Playa Tamarindo and Playa Langosta. To the north is Las Baulas National Marine Park, which is an important nesting site for leatherback sea turtles.
Activities in and around Tamarindo include zip lines, deep sea sports finishing, and of course surfing. Known as the “surfers’ mecca” of Costa Rica, Tamarindo is a prime location for enjoying some great waves. Warm weather, off-shore winds, and consistent swells provide year-round surfing.
Groovy and Chill Nightlife
Although chill by the standards of the capital or Jaco beach, nightlife in Tamarindo is bustling. Nearly every bar in Tamarindo hosts a ladies night, and live music in the open air is staple. Concerts are sometimes held in the 250 seat amphitheater at the Tamarindo Beach Club and Resort.
On weekends, city dwellers from San Jose often pop up to enjoy the nightlife scene in Tamarindo. On Friday, be sure to pay a visit to The Monkey Bar, a two-story dance club, located within the Best Western. After watching the sun set over the ocean, get your groove on the open-air patio while listening to the band.
